Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village & Museum

Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village & Museum is a unique Pioneer Heritage Museum located 13 km south of Moose Jaw on Highway 2. As an Open Air Museum Saskatchewan, we bring prairie history to life by preserving and displaying artifacts, buildings, and stories from early settler life. The centerpiece is the iconic Tom Sukanen Ship Exhibit, the land-built vessel whose story captures imagination and speaks to the determination of settlers. Stroll through the Historic Village Tours and walk down streets lined with original buildings, moved from across the region to form a living historical tableau. The Historic Buildings Exhibit includes a church, general store, print shop, railway station, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, and more, giving visitors a window into daily life on the prairie. Our collection also includes a Vintage Farm Machinery Museum with tractors, trucks, and implements used by early farmers, and features the towering grain elevator exhibit drawn from the 1913 structure moved to the site. You’ll also find the Diefenbaker Homestead Museum preserved on site, allowing guests to explore the roots of Canada’s 13th Prime Minister, and many more Pioneer Life Museum elements that tell Saskatchewan’s story. Whether you’ve come for the Grain Elevator Exhibit, to walk among historic homes, or to engage with stories of rural and pioneer life, this museum invites you to step back in time. Plan your visit, join a guided or self-guided tour, and immerse yourself in prairie heritage. Visit us today to experience the past up close and support local heritage preservation!
